He has been successful in applying his musical knowledge and educational theory to planning interesting and imaginative lessons. Russell’s enthusiasm and expertise as a performer both of the trumpet and natural trumpet have provided additional inspiration to pupils in many different contexts. He has consistently tried to make his lessons appealing to pupils, in particular by seeking to find ways to make links with pupils’ experiences of music outside the school context and bringing the teaching alive through his performance skills and knowledge of technology.
